Board Approves Architect for the Mt. Ararat High School Project

posted Mar 27, 2015, 10:53 AM by Ryan Palmer
The MSAD No. 75 Board approved an architect for the Mt. Ararat High School project!  PDT, a Portland firm, has extensive experience designing high schools– from new high schools to renovations and additional projects and buildings of all ages and construction types. Their recent projects include Mount Blue Campus, Windham High School, and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. PDT also designed Cony High School in Augusta, and Poland High School, both new buildings designed for future growth and expanded community services.

The process of selecting an architect began earlier this year.  The Designer Selection Committee initially interviewed four architectural firms. After narrowing it down to two firms, reference checks were conducted, followed by visitations to schools in in Maine and New Hampshire.  A second interview session was held, and PDT was recommended to the school board last night.

This is an exciting time! Until this point, our focus has been on selecting an architectural firm. Now, we begin focusing our attention on the actual project. Donna Brunette and I met this morning with PDT. We will meet on Monday with officials from the state of Maine to consider the scope of our project, next steps and make contractual arrangements.

We expect the initial steps to begin immediately. Our current site and facility will be evaluated to determine whether renovation, renovation and additions, or new construction is the best course of action. We anticipate that process to take approximately 3 to 4 months.

My sincere appreciation to members of the Designer Selection Committee who accepted the responsibility for this important decision. That committees work is now complete, and we will begin meeting with the Building Committee as we follow the process required by the Maine Department of Education.
