RE: Groundbreaking
       Mt. Ararat High School

The public is invited to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Mt. Ararat High School.  The event will be held on June 7, 2018 at 4:30 pm.

MSAD No.75 was approved for the construction of a new high school during the 2014-15 school year by the Maine Department of Education.  Once an architect was selected (PDT is our firm), a study was done to determine whether to remodel or build a new school.  Since then, the process for designing and building a school with state funding has been followed, including successful passage of the referendum on March 7, 2017. The project has reached the point where actual construction will begin as soon as this school year ends.

The groundbreaking event will include ceremonial shovel digging by people who have committed countless hours on this project, including the Building Committee and six sub committees.  Following the ceremony, there will be a reception in the High School Commons.

“We hope the community will join us in celebrating the beginning of construction of the new high school.  It has taken four years of hard work to reach this important step.  We are proud of the school design, knowing it will support student learning in a variety of settings.  We are schedule to open the new building in the Fall of 2020.   This is an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions and celebrate the work completed.”

There is a volunteer fundraising committee working to raise $500,000 to supplement the state and local share of the project. These funds will go towards remaining unfunded needs such as, dugouts for baseball and softball, baseball scoreboard, competition field scoreboard, ropes course for gymnasium, turf infill, and other needs identified by the building committee as funds are available.

Donations towards this goal are welcome and encouraged and additional volunteers are needed. If you are interested, please contact Angela Twitchell at  libnang@comcast.net or Rob Hollenbach at hollenbachrob@gmail.com
